Caring for
your tattoo
Thank you for trusting me! Proper care during healing is essential for your tattoo to heal correctly and keep the best possible quality.
The healing guide
- 01
If your tattoo is covered with Second Skin
- Keep the Second Skin on for 3 to 5 days, as long as it stays well adhered and doesn't leak.
- It's completely normal for ink, blood and plasma to build up under the dressing during the first hours.
- If the Second Skin peels off, lets air in or leaks fluid, remove it immediately.
- To remove it, do so slowly under warm water, stretching the adhesive parallel to the skin, never upwards.
- Once removed, wash the tattoo with cold or lukewarm water and neutral soap, using only your fingertips.
- Dry the area with a paper towel, patting gently, without rubbing.
- 02
If your tattoo is covered with plastic film
- Remove the plastic 2 to 4 hours after getting the tattoo.
- Wash the tattoo with cold or lukewarm water and neutral soap, using only your fingertips.
- Dry the area with a paper towel, patting gently, without rubbing.
- Don't cover the tattoo with plastic again, unless I tell you to.
- 03
Washing the tattoo
- During the first 3 to 5 days, especially if the tattoo is large or has a lot of fill, it's normal for it to release plasma, ink and small amounts of blood.
- Wash the tattoo 3 times a day with cold or lukewarm water and neutral soap. If it gets dirty or you sweat a lot, you can wash it one more time.
- With your fingertips, gently clean the whole surface until you completely remove the plasma, ink and any residue on the skin.
- Don't use sponges, brushes, cloths or towels to clean it.
- Don't let that layer of plasma dry on the tattoo, as it can lead to thicker scabs and affect even healing.
- After each wash, always dry with a paper towel, patting gently, without rubbing.
- 04
Applying products
- During the first 2 days, don't apply any cream or product on the tattoo. Keep the area clean and dry.
- From the third day, apply a very thin layer of healing cream 2 to 3 times a day for about a week.
- After that first week, continue with a fragrance-free moisturizing cream until healing is complete.
- Apply only a thin layer of product; too much cream can hinder proper healing.
- 05
During the first days
- During the first 3 to 5 days, avoid tight clothing or garments that rub a lot on the tattoo. Ideally, wear clean, soft and loose clothing.
- When sleeping, try to keep the tattoo from staying stuck to the sheets for a long time.
- If when you wake up you notice clothing or sheets have stuck to the tattoo, don't pull them off by force. Dampen them with cold or lukewarm water until they come away gently, then wash the tattoo again.
- 06
Important recommendations
- Don't scratch, rub or remove the scabs or peeling skin. Let them fall off naturally.
- Avoid exposing the tattoo to the sun until it's fully healed. Once healed, use sunscreen to help preserve the color and details.
- Don't go into pools, jacuzzis, saunas, Turkish baths, the sea or rivers while the tattoo is healing.
- Avoid long baths; during this time it's better to shower normally.
- Avoid intense exercise during the first days if it produces a lot of sweat or rubbing on the tattoo.
- Always keep the tattoo clean and avoid touching it with dirty hands.
- 07
Alcohol
To support good healing, avoid drinking alcohol during the 2 days before the tattoo, the day of the procedure and the 2 days after, since alcohol can increase bleeding and affect the healing process.
- 08
Healing time
- Every skin and every tattoo heals differently, depending on the size, location and characteristics of the skin.
- On average, surface healing takes between 15 days and 1 month. During this time it's important to follow all these recommendations to get the best possible result.
- 09
Important
- It's normal to have slight redness, tenderness, itching, peeling and a little plasma release during the first days.
- If you notice intense pain, a significant increase in redness, excessive heat, foul-smelling discharge or fever, consult a healthcare professional.
